How Our ABSN Program Works

An accelerated nursing program, such as the one offered at Notre Dame, is ideal if you wish to transition into nursing. The program applies credits from your undergraduate degree so that you can earn a bachelor of science in nursing in as few as 15 months. In three stages of learning, the Notre Dame ABSN program equips you with the nursing knowledge, skills, and experience needed to enter the profession:

  • Nursing theory coursework is offered online and on-campus and focuses on key nursing concepts
  • Nursing skills and simulation labs put nursing theory into practice
  • Clinical rotations give you real-world experience under instructor supervision

Once completed, our accelerated BSN program readies students to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), a national exam all nursing students must take to receive licensure to practice the profession.

Accelerated Nursing Coursework

We offer two formats for students to complete the coursework component of the program: online through an interactive learning platform or in a classroom at our campus in Baltimore.

Online-Based Option

Our Hybrid Accelerated 2nd Degree BSN program gives students the opportunity to study and complete nursing theory coursework via an intuitive e-Learning platform. Complete interactive online exercises, participate in class discussions through discussion boards and other online modalities, and communicate with instructors all without having to step foot in a physical classroom. While you’ll still have to attend in-person labs and clinicals and adhere to instructors’ deadlines, our online ABSN option brings a level of convenience and autonomy to the nursing theory learning process.

On-Campus Option

Students enrolled in our on-campus Accelerated 2nd Degree BSN program will commute to our campus in Baltimore to attend regularly scheduled in-person lectures taught by our expert nursing faculty, making it a great option for those who thrive on structured routine. Thanks to our low student-to-instructor ratios, you can expect to receive plenty of individualized attention from instructors and face-time with classmates with this degree program option.

FAQS

Is Notre Dame of Maryland University’s ABSN program accredited?

Yes, both the hybrid and on-campus ABSN programs are accredited by the CCNE.

Can I complete the hybrid ABSN program from anywhere if coursework is 100% online?

No. While the hybrid ABSN program allows students to complete online nursing theory coursework from anywhere, students enrolled in this program must also attend in-person labs at our program site off-campus, and clinical rotations through our practice partners in the greater Baltimore area. For this reason, we recommend living within commuting distance to the program site while enrolled in the hybrid ABSN program.

Where is the Accelerated Program Offered?

Students enrolled in the campus-based Accelerated 2nd Degree BSN program attend nursing theory classes and nursing skills and simulation labs at the Notre Dame of Maryland University campus in Baltimore. Students enrolled in the hybrid ABSN program complete nursing theory courses online and attend nursing skills and simulation labs at the off-campus ABSN learning site.

Who is this nursing program for?

Notre Dame is for students who hold non-nursing bachelor’s degrees from a regionally accredited university who wish to transition into the nursing field quickly. We make it possible for qualified applicants to earn a BSN in as few as 15 months. Additionally, because the Accelerated BSN program condenses a traditional, 36-month nursing school curriculum into 15 months, it requires a lot of commitment, motivation, and organization to be successful.
